Kids Blowing Bubbles

I approach my childcare work with organization, strong communication with parents, listening skills and on-the-go problem-solving. I am very adept at working with many arrays of personalities and communication styles. I worked for four summers as a Lead Instructor for the International School of Denver Summer Camp program. This involved planning and implementing lessons and activities for children ages 3-14 years old for language emersion (French), or for other themed variety camps. I oversaw up to 25 children at a time. I am certified in playground safety, preventing shaken baby syndrome, mandatory reporter training, and medication administration. I have some familiarity caring for children who have autism spectrum diagnoses through my work at the summer camps. I would be comfortable assisting families who have school age children with this need, and/or learning more. I have experience with ages 1-3 through family and friends and occasional sitting including diapering, naps and meals.

I speak French at a professional working proficiency level, and I also have nearly 7 years experience working as an academic tutor for children, teens, and college students. I have tutored a variety of subjects. My favorite youth teaching/tutoring experience was working as a Learning Assistant with the math department during my four years as a student at CU Boulder.

More about me...I'm a recent graduate of CU Boulder with a degree in Biochemistry. I am currently taking a post-grad gap year to work and travel before attending graduate school to study virology. In Fall 2021 I went on a two month backpacking trip around Europe where I visited family and explored many new and incredible places. When I'm not in school or traveling, I really enjoy camping, hiking, attending concerts, and debating nerdy science things with my friends!

"Rachel has been great with my son (age 5). She worked with us for the gap when my son was out of school and before we left for summer vacation. We really appreciated her flexibility and support. My son has very high functioning autism and has several specific quirks and needs as is common to people with autism. Rachel has been very good with remembering these items and supporting my son, listening to him and engaging in his interests. We would be happy to work with Rachel again!" - Morgan S.

"Rachel and I worked together for 2 to 3 summers at the International School Of Denver summer camps. We led camps for ages 3 to 14 and in particular/primarily for ages 5 to 14 year olds. We also worked together to prepare curriculum & activities. Rachel is is really good with time management, she is absolutely reliable. One of her greatest strengths is also making sure kids feel included and comfortable, that everyone feels happy to be there and engaged. And especially with summer camps that is an important skill, because camp can be hard for kids with meeting new people and trying new activities. I recommend Rachel and I think she would be great sitting and nannying a variety of kids and personalities.” - Monisha L.
